Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for an experienced legal assistant or paralegal to join our growing team and serve our growing client base with real estate transactions including commercial financing and property development. We are seeking someone with at least 5 years of legal real estate experience and expertise who can collaborate effectively with our team and provide essential support to our lawyers and help us manage our real estate files. The ideal candidate is trustworthy, proactive, and a team player who takes initiative and is willing to help wherever needed to ensure our lawyers are supported and clients receive excellent service.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial and Personal Real Estate and Financing Transactions (70-80%)
• Conducting and reviewing due diligence searches, including Land Title and BC Online searches.
• Drafting legal documents for real estate sales, purchases, financing, and refinancing.
• Drafting and overseeing our checklists and timelines for real estate and financing transactions.
• Assisting with commercial real estate and financing transactions through to closing.
• Preparing and/or registering documents and plans for real estate development projects including, Ground Leases, Development Agreements, Housing Agreements, Covenants, Easements, Rights-of-Way and other related notices and development charges.
• Liaising with lawyers, support staff and external parties involved with commercial real estate and financing transactions.
Corporate Services and Other File and Administrative Support (20-30%)
• Preparing corporate documents for BC and federally incorporated for-profit companies including incorporations/organizations, name changes, dividends (ordinary capital and eligible), share alterations, amalgamations, continuations, restorations, dissolutions, share transactions, reorganizations, changes to directors and officers and changes to registered and records offices, among other transactions,
• Assisting with document preparation and closings for complex business sale and acquisition transactions
• Conducting corporate and other due diligence searches.
• Updating and maintaining corporate records books and ensuring documents comply with the applicable legislation and are entered into our database. Conducting record book reviews and preparing documents to correct any minute book deficiencies.
Qualifications
• At least 5 years’ prior experience in a paralegal or legal assistant role.
• High degree of proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Experience with real estate transactions and required documentation and filings.
• Strong understanding and experience with Land Title Office filing and registration requirements.
• Familiarity with BC Housing and CMHC financing documents
• Familiarity with the British Columbia Societies Act and Business Corporations Act.
• High degree of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills required to prioritize a high volume of tasks with competing priorities.
• Excellent oral and written communication and people skills.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple files with deadlines.
• Proficient using BC Online, BC Registries and Online Services.
• Experience working at a law firm or similar office environment.
• Experience working and volunteering in the Charity and Non-Profit Sector is preferred.
• Willingness to attend our office to work in person is preferred.

Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
